1930's
The 1930's was known as The Great Depression. The stock market crashed and people were loosing jobs. Everyone was affected by this hard time. People would do anything for work. The picture to the left is a perfect example of how tough the times were. The only people that survived this hard time were the people that owned large companies. These people would only survive if they gave things up, such as homes and children. People were forced to put there children in the orphanage because they couldn't provide for them as well as a governmental institution would. It was these orphanages that saved many children from death.
The 1930's were tough enough with the economy but things got tougher with the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was the strong, long lasting drought that hit America. This created many to get very sick and some even die. This, along with the depression made people poorer than ever. People walked around the streets of big cities trying to find jobs yet most companies were downsizing because they couldn't afford more employees. This left men, women and children with no where to go.
