The twenties were roaring with wealth and happiness. People were buying and selling material often and big companies were booming. People spent money on automobiles and electrical appliances. People made money off of the stock market and with the illegal selling of liquor. Land, however, was hard to come by. People who farmed were loosing land due to the consumers not buying their products. People wanted items out of factories instead of farms. Slaves were a heavy load for the farmers, therefore, pushing them into poverty. People of all races: Africans, Natives, White Americans, and immigrants, all had people that were impoverished. The Africans, Natives and immigrants all worked for the White Americans.
African Americans were free but they were not respected. They were still segregated from the white Americans in all situations. They could not go into stores or schools that white Americans could go into. The African Americans had separate water fountains and separate books that they could use. They were treated cruelly by the white Americans.
The Natives were forced by the American government to be used as an area for economic wealth. Some of the Natives eventually left their tribe to live in urban areas. The Natives did not have jobs and could, by no means, survive by the high standards that were established in the 1920's.
The immigrants were treated just as poorly. The Germans, Polish, Slovakians and Jews are just a few of the immigrants that migrated to America for jobs so that they could take that wealth to their home country. Immigrants tended to stay with their own ethnicity therefore, work was often difficult to find. The people stayed together and made ethnic shops, banks and radio stations just in time for it to all go downward. Their economic issues were great in number because the American culture began to increase.
White American farmers were considered impoverished because their products were not being sold. A fourth of the farmers were forced to sell their land, crops and animals to meet their financial needs. The farmers overproduced while the prices fell. They were paid less for the product so they were sadly forced to give it all up.
